the memoria performance

MEMORIA boxes created by the performers as part of their creative process.

The MEMORIA performance is part of the MEMORIA 2020 project and seeked to engage a group of young people with the history of the Mayflower, exploring the topics of colonisation, social justice, oppression and privilege and facilitate the expression of their perspective
into a live performance.

We worked with sixth form students from Lipson Co-operative Academy, introducing them to the historicity of the topic and then facilitating an inclusive creative process to determine the story of the performance by themselves.

We are very grateful with Lipson Co-operative Academy, who with its strong values of cooperation, equality, self-responsibility, solidarity, democracy and social responsibility, have been a strong ally to the cause of this project, lending us the rehearsal space, being supportive of the students and, in general, just being extremely kind with us. Special thanks to the Head of Drama Mr Brantley Rogers, without whose help we would not have been able to network with the school.

The young performers were:

- Ella Peters
- Lina Turchenko
- Merlin Ashton
- Or Karny-Muñoz
- Sophia Misske

Working hand in hand with our colleague: the author and theatre maker Andy Blackwell, from Mirror Mirror theatre, the group presented an in-person performance on a small Feminist Fusion / MEMORIA session on Saturday 10th July at a community café, following COVID restrictions. The performance was followed by a public conversation with the performers.

We had young singer-songwriter Sophie as opening act.
